This is Church for the witches, queers, and atheists.
We are a community of many (un)beliefs that gathers around stories of the Christ to rediscover silenced voices, to reclaim weaponized teachings, and to playfully reimagine traditions and texts for our own lives and the modern world.
Our house is open for all who also seek to nourish our neighborhood, whether that be a monthly free store, weekly yoga, theory reading groups, or board game gatherings!
Rooted in the mothers of the Reformation and the lineage of Martha of Bethany (beit hini, "house of figs"), Hannah was raised by leftist clergy parents on the grounds of a progressive seminary in northern California, where professors and hippies lived side by side and debated matters of faith and justice at her childhood dinner table. Because of (or maybe despite?) the environment in which she grew up, she went on to study Religion at Occidental College in Los Angeles before continuing on to receive her Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School and her ordination in the PC(USA).
With friends new and old, she and her spouse are haphazardly building an urban intentional community in their home in St. Louis, accompanied by the chaos and joy of their children. With more enthusiasm than skill, Hannah spends her time gardening, crafting, baking, and dancing, and loves nothing more than extensive, lively, meandering conversation over good food.
house of figs is a New Worshiping Community of the PC(USA) and the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy.
